This thread was mainly started in response to the dozens of you who went out and spent $15 on the Greatest Hits CD, and then came on here and bitched and moaned as if it were some big surprise as to exactly what it was. Everyone knew what it was months ago, and you bitched and moaned then, and then you still went out and paid your money with some kind of disillusion that you were going to get something different. So.....what happened here, in a round about way based on your idea of what a greatest hits CD is, is Mike Ness did in fact shit in a box, and almost all of us still went out and bought it.

Wolfpits, I don't care what you think, what you do, what you like, if you believe in punk shit or other things.. but hey, ask yourself what's right or wrong. You know the truth, but you're blinded. That's what I think and you should know it We can stop fighting now if you accept that the "to be loyal story" sucks. I still believe that I don't do wrong if I criticize the masses of "wanna be like Ness" guys or people who earn money with the name of the band without refund.
The Greatest Hits.. I don't think the management did faults, I had also contact with Shane, a very nice person
I still believe this maybelline song was never intended for the GH, it was recorded later than Far Behind or something else.
As a "loyal fan" you can also tell Ness the truth about the Greatest Hits, if he doesn't know what we think "because we buy everything, we're loyal" he won't change something. Do you want the next studio record in three or more versions, maybe 2 songs on itunes only? I don't think so.

You guys are both grown men arguing on a message board..
Greatest hits cashing out? No i dont think so, Bob dylan has 3 different greatest hits that were all released for differnet era's. He has yet to cash out and is still making great records.
THE REV released holy roller some time ago and has made a few albums and still toured his ass off.
Another band that im not too found of but released a greatest hits then released there biggest album was......Grenn day. They are bigger then ever and there greatest hits came out what 5 years ago?
Yea when people like RICKY MARTIN put out a greatest hits they are cashing out but bands like the ones I have listed are doing it just to help the people out there that havent got all of the albums.
I bought TREX's greatest hits because at this point in time i dont feel like paying 20 dollars for each cd and i dont want to wait 20 hours to download it as a torrent.
So sorry to blast the b.s about greatest hits meaning that they are done.

first of all i just wanna say this isn't meant to be a slam on anyone personally, so please don't get all defensive, it's just my opinion
i really think that posting a letter like this on a message board is at the very least cheesy especially since there's no way mike ness would waste his time reading stuff on here anyways, guaranteed. so i see it as more of a "look at me, i'm cooler than all of you haters on here" type thing. really... if you feel that strongly, write mike a letter and send it to rebel waltz. it's not hard to find an address where you can send your letter and it has a MUCH better chance of being read by someone who can send it to mike ness or anyone else.
i think it's really great that people have the stones to come on here and say they are disappointed with the greatest hits cd and call out mike, social d, and their management for trying to make a buck off of their loyal fans by not allowing them to buy maybelline on itunes without buying the whole album, even though you can buy any other song by itself.
you also mention something about not being around had it not been for music like social d (i'm paraphrasing), but the fact is that there would be no social distortion without the fans. should we have creative control over what they produce and the way in which they deliver? hell no. absolutely not. but i'm not afraid to say i think something is crap when i realize it's crap. kudos to everyone who voiced their opinions even though they knew they'd get slammed. it's easy to write "i love you" letters to mike ness on a message board that he never reads.
i really wish the people who were pissed about the whole greatest things didn't actually go out and buy the album, but i know some have, and that's cool too. i won't. record companies, bands, management companies, etc are (in my opinion) systematically screwing fans by always coming up with some "marketing" strategy to get us to buy more. if it's all about the fans, as so many bands claim, then put all the freaking songs on a cd and let us buy it. don't screw us into buying vinyl, cd, and then the whole album all over again on itunes just to get one song. you can't possibly look at that from an outsider perspective and not realize that something is wrong with that picture. i own every release of social d prior to this, but this really rubbed me the wrong way. oh, i also agree that greatest hits are a joke and even though it may not mean that social d is running out of gas, it really means they want a cheap way to make some extra cash. no doubt in my mind. and, that's cool because it's a capitalistic society we live in, but i also have the choice not to buy it. it may be an exercise in futility but it's my small way of protesting against this kind of crap.
thumbs up again to everyone who had the stones to speak out against something they disagree with, because that will ALWAYS be more punk rock than someone who writes love letters on a message board that mike ness never reads.

I say thumbs up to those of you who just really don't think any of this is all that important. I mean it's pretty simple...if you want it buy it, and if you think it's a rip-off don't buy it. Nothin's free, don't see why this is really any different...

Dr. Mike Ness,
Im writing you this letter in hopes that your poo will grace my tongue. I am a sheep and will follow you to the gates of hell. Keep putting out greatest hits with no real substance, and one good new song!
Don't bother with just putting a catalogue of songs together and getting out the new album. Just put one or two new songs out every once in a while...take advantage of your cor fans to give you their money and take advantage of your new found popularity. I know you have cars to restore so please have my money.
I'd probably be dead if you hadnt come out with "when she begins" thanxs... The "H" was tough to get off of without that. Oh yeah, and if it wasnt for "Prison bound", i'd probably be rotting in a cell somewhere.
You've touched me!
Jeeze...give me a break wolfpits. Why don't you just write Mike a personal letter instead of playing this holier than thou Fanatic card on SXDX.com.
In a recent thread you stated Mike Ness could shit in a box, and you'd think it was great, and now in your thread, your only a fan if they write great music????....
For all you ROOKIES out there.....Greatest hits albums by ANY band whatsoever are never a good thing. It means the band is looking to cash out, is slowing down, knows the end is near....yada yada yada. It basically means the band has seen its best days.
Sorry but thats reality. I'll still buy the new albums that mike comes out with every few years etc. But those that think a Greatest hits album is a good thing havnt paid attention to modern american music in the last 40 years.

Ladies, don't get your panties wet over what I wrote. Im not sorry for feeling a connection to the band. There is no other band that has reached me like they have and I have the stones to tell the world about it. Thats all. It's not a love letter and I dont want to suck mike off. I dont think and I dont care if Mike ever reads this, It was mainly meant to be something completely opposite from all the "fuck Social D for fucking us over" posts that have been started these past few days. They didnt fuck anybody over and they don't owe anybody anything. They deserve to make a living and are lucky that they can do this through music full time. You have the choice not to buy the greatest hits Cd, but most of you still did, and still complained about it. I own the Pretenders greatest hits because I like the band, but dont want to buy every cd they ever made. I like the Police, but im only willing to buy the singles collection. I love the rolling stones, but not enough to buy all 30 something records they ever made, so i listen to Hot Rocks. Believe it or not, there are many more casual Social D fans out there than the 50 or so of us who post on this site every day. I would say the Greatest Hits collection is a pretty good idea to get them turned on to this band before the next CD is recorded. They dont owe me or you shit man.

wait a sec... i've reread the posts above and i don't see it where anyone said the band "owes" us something. not once. i did say they were trying to screw the fans by making the long time fans buy cd, vinyl and itunes and i also said it's fine for them to do it (capitalism), but i won't be a lemming jumping off a cliff... and guess what... i didn't buy it! ha. and i won't buy it. double ha.
oh, and i did say that people who are pissed at them shouldn't have bought the cd, vinyl, etc. i stand by that opinion.
you can return to giving mike a rim job now, sorry to interrupt.
